Designed bedroom with layered neutral tones by Styling Lab

A home should be designed around how you actually live in it.

Styling Lab is led by a qualified Interior Architect with a project-management background. Our design work begins with the fundamentals — how a space is planned, how it flows, and how it will be used day to day — not decoration applied at the end.

Whether you're renovating, reconfiguring a floor plan, choosing finishes for a new build, or simply want a considered scheme for furniture and colour, we bring design intelligence and end-to-end discipline from first concept to final detail.

Interior design — FAQs

What is the difference between property styling and interior design?+

Property styling prepares a home to sell — it is temporary, buyer-focused and built around a sales campaign. Interior design is for the way you actually live: permanent finishes, furniture, layout and materials chosen for your taste and how you use the space. Interior Architect-led, we do both, and many clients move from one to the other when they buy their next home.

How much does an interior designer cost in Sydney?+

Interior design fees in Sydney typically sit in three bands. A focused design consultation — a few hours of advice on colour, layout or finishes — usually ranges from a few hundred to around $1,500. A single-room scheme, fully documented, generally runs from $3,000 to $8,000 depending on scope. Full-home or renovation design managed end to end is usually structured as a project fee or a percentage of construction cost (commonly 10–15%), and is quoted after an initial consultation. Furniture and trades are separate. We provide a transparent written quote after we've seen the space and understood the brief.

How long does an interior design project take?+

A design consultation is a single visit with notes back within a week. A single-room scheme typically takes 4–8 weeks from brief to documented design. A full renovation or whole-home project usually runs 3–6 months for design and documentation, then a further 3–9 months on site depending on scope, trades and council requirements. We give you an indicative timeline at the consultation and a firm program once the brief is locked.

Do you supply the furniture, or just specify it?+

Both options are available. For most full-design projects we manage procurement end to end — sourcing, ordering, tracking and delivery coordination — so you receive a finished, installed result. For clients who prefer to buy the pieces themselves, we provide a fully documented schedule with specifications and suppliers so you can purchase directly. Trade discounts secured during procurement are passed through to you.

When should I hire an interior designer — before or after I buy or start building?+

Earlier is almost always better. For a renovation, bringing us in before you engage a builder lets us shape the floor plan, finishes and joinery into a single coherent scheme — and avoids expensive variations later. For a new build, ideally we're involved before the architectural plans are locked, so we can influence room proportions, window placement and storage. For a purchased home you're moving into, the best time to start is during the cooling-off period so the design runs in parallel with settlement.

What areas do you cover for interior design?+

We work across Sydney's North Shore, Northern Beaches and Hills District from our studio in Pymble. Most projects sit within about 30 minutes of the studio.
